WHO CAN TRY OUT?
Any Vacaville High School student or incoming freshman is eligible to tryout. Grade requirements are based on the 3rd quarter (3/14/10) report card. Eligibility includes a minimum 2.0 GPA and no “Fs” in any class (including ALPHA).
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
A positive attitude, a willingness to try and learn new things is a must!
WHAT IS THE SELECTION PROCESS?
All candidates will be required to learn the sideline dance, game actions, basic jumps and a mini cheer. There will be an opportunity to show off your tumbling – it is not mandatory but helpful in evaluating your skills. JV candidates and Varsity candidates will be taught together, but judged separately. Clinics are run by college cheerleaders and outgoing seniors. Candidates will be judged by Mrs. Moe, Cheer Advisor, Stephanie Christmon, Cheer Coach as well as independent professionals who possess a strong background in college and competitive cheerleading. This creates a fair and quality tryout for all those participating. The possibility of a Freshmen team will be decided on the day of final tryouts. Final selection is based on the following criteria:
-
Clinic Score: Candidates will be observed and scored during the entire week of tryous for their effort, enthusiasm, cooperation and overall attitude. (50 pts)
-
Teacher Recommendations: All paper work must be turned in by Friday, April 23rd. Teacher recommendations are very important and a critical factor in the selection process. (100 pts)
-
Judge’s Decisions:
On Friday, April 30th, all candidates will be required to perform the mini cheer, game actions, jumps and sideline dance. The judges will be looking at the following categories (50 pts):
-
Confidence/Projection of voice
-
Knowledge of cheer, game actions & fight song
-
Skill (technique)
-
Jumps (required)
-
Advanced Jumps & Tumbling (Optional)
JUDGES DECISIONS ARE FINAL! We know and appreciate the effort that goes into trying out for the VHS Cheerleading Squad. Unfortunately, not every candidate will make the team and there will be no individual feedback given concerning why someone did or did not make the squad. All sessions during tryouts are closed to the public. All candidates must attend the meeting and all clinic days or they will not be eligible for final tryouts on Friday.
Tryout Packets Available in the Jepson & VHS Offices on Monday, April 5th!
