
Work Permits
• Every employed student needs a work permit until age 18.
• Work permits are issued to the place of employment.
• A 2.0 G.P.A. is required for a student to be issued a work permit.
• Student truancy may prohibit a student from obtaining a work permit.
• Work permits expire every September 15 and must be renewed.
• Each time a student changes jobs they must obtain a new permit.
Students 16 and over:
• May work 4 hours on any day that precedes a school day.
• On Friday and Saturday: they may work 8 hours.
• Total hours allowed per week when school is in session is 28 hours.
• May not work past ten o’clock pm any day that precedes a school day.
• May work until twelve o’clock pm on Friday and Saturday.
• When school is not in session students may work 8 hours a day and 40
hours per week.
• Students enrolled in ROP Restaurant, Retail or Business Technology
CTE (work experience) classes will receive an extended work permit
that allows them to work 8 hours a day and 40 hours per week when
school is in session.
Students 15 and under:
• May work 3 hours on any day that precedes a school day.
• May not work past seven o’clock pm on any day that precedes a school
day.
• Friday and Saturday: they may work until ten o’clock pm.
• When school is not in session students may work 8 hours a day and 40
hours per week.

• Applications for a work permit may be picked up in the VHS Career
Center or downloaded by clicking here.
• Work Permit applications need to be filled out completely, including
parent signature, employer signature and social security number.
• Permits will not be processed if information is missing.
• Please allow one day for processing your work permit.
• Students need to pick up the completed permit and deliver it to their
employer.
