1.                 Get the student to class daily and on time.

2.                 Partner with school staff in correcting inappropriate behavior, and support

positive student achievement.

3.                 Contact the school when the student is absent.

4.                 Promptly inform the school of any changes to address and phone numbers.

 

 

CONTACTING STAFF AND STUDENTS

 

Teaching staff can be reached between the hours of 8:00 and 2:30 p.m.  The principal can be reached between the hours of 8:00 and 3:30 at 453-2182. Parents are encouraged to contact staff via e-mail whenever possible.  Students are not allowed to use school telephones unless it is an emergency situation, and use is at the discretion of staff.  If you need to leave a message for your student you may do so by calling (707) 453-2142.  In case of emergency please call the Elm Front Office at (707) 453-7207 or Alice Stewart at 453-7324 to be transferred directly to the classroom.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

 

Regular attendance is a necessary part of the learning process and is critical to academic success.  Each student is expected to attend school each day and remain at school the entire day.  The classroom teacher will monitor student attendance.  If a student is absent due to an illness or emergency, or if a student needs to leave school early, parents must send a note to clear the absence or call (707) 453-7324 or 453-2142.  Each student must have an appropriate attendance record to return to their home school after the expulsion period or SARB contract.

 

IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION

 

If a student is consistently disruptive during class they will be asked to spend time in the school suspension classroom.  If a student leaves campus without permission they will be required to spend the next day at the in-school suspension classroom. Parents will be called when a student has left campus without permission and a day will be scheduled for the student to serve detention.  This program was developed to decrease the use of out-of-school suspensions and encourage students to make appropriate behavioral choices.

 

DRESS CODE

 

The dress code is established to promote a positive, safe, and wholesome learning environment.  Students are to be focused on instruction.  Therefore, extremes in dress, regarded as disruptive or a distraction from the learning environment, are not permitted.  Students who fail to follow the dress code will be required to change clothing or may be assigned additional consequences.

 

1.      Any apparel, jewelry, or accessory that is related to gangs is forbidden. Such items include, but are not limited to, wave caps, hair nets, bandanas, gang numbers, initials, or abbreviations (e.g. XIV, XIII, N, Sur, etc.) colored rags or handkerchiefs hanging outside of pockets or belts, etc.  Items of clothing that are red or blue will not be allowed (excluding denim jeans).

2.      Any clothing, jewelry, or accessory that displays or promotes illegal substances (e.g., drugs, alcohol, tobacco, etc.) is prohibited.

3.      Clothing, jewelry, accessories, or personal items must be fee of any pictures, writings or representations related to pornography, profanity, violence, or illegal behavior, or which is demeaning to any race, gender, or creed.

4.      Student must wear shoes, or sandals.

5.      No cleavage, midriff, bare chest, or buttocks may be showing.

6.      Undergarments must be covered and not visible.

7.      No sagging of shorts or any kind of trousers.

8.      No pajamas.

9.      No revealing clothing (e.g. Òsee-throughÓ, strapless, or back-less clothing, or gaping sleeveless tops, etc.) is allowed.

10.   Straps on overalls must be attached, not hanging down.

11.   Chains hanging down from pockets, belt loops or the waist are not allowed.

12.   Students will remove hats, hoods, and sunglasses in the classroom.

 

 

 

School staff has discretion in making judgments related to the appropriateness of dress.

 

 

REPORT CARDS

 

Parent of Vacaville Community Day Prep School students will receive report cards at the end of each grading period (4 times per year).  Weekly progress reports can be provided upon parental request

TESTING

 

Students will be evaluated formally and informally through oral or written testing, observations, homework, attendance and class participation.  CAHSEE and STAR testing will be conducted on site.

 

CODE OF CONDUCT

 

Classroom Rules

 

1.                 School day begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m.

2.                 No electronics will be used during class time (including PE)

3.                 No profanity or inappropriate language in public.  No Profanity towards or regarding staff members.

4.                 Dress Code: No RED or BLUE gang attire

5.                 Stay in your seats unless instructed to get up.  5 minutes will be allowed to transition to your next class.  (Bathroom and water breaks are to be taken during transition, breaks and lunch)

6.                 Follow instructions of staff

7.                 NO DESTRUCTION of school property.

 

 

Cell Phones/Electronic Instruments

 

Students are cautioned not go bring cell phones, IPODS, or any other form of electronic communication devices to school.  All forms of electronic communication must remain in the ÒoffÓ position during instructional time.

 

Discipline Ladder for cell phones and other electronic devices:

 

1.                 First offense – verbal warning to turn it off and/or put it away.

2.                 Second offense – (anytime during the year) Office referral and telephone call to parent.

3.                 Third and successive offenses – office referral and suspension.

4.                 If the electronic communication devices policy is repeatedly broken, the student will not be allowed to possess the device on campus.

May go on walking field trips to library, down town

May participate in elective (sewing)

May be on campus out of line of sight with permission (i.e. transfer between classes, run errands)

May be out of seat during non instructional time

Must remain in seat unless given permission (except as indicated on IEPs or 504 plans)

Must eat inside

Full escort at all times

No PAT activities

 

Weekly PAT activities.

Students must earn weekly PAT activities.  Students earn these through remaining on level 3 or above, and maintaining satisfactory attendance and work completion. 

Students with any more than 3 periods of truancies in the current week are not eligible for PAT activities

Students with any more than 2 incomplete assignments must complete assignments prior to participating in PAT activities

PAT activities will be offered at the discretion of the teaching staff.  These activities will normally take place during 3rd or 6th period on Fridays.  Activities include:

Puzzles, games, free time to draw or read

Special events or speakers

Watch movies

Special snacks

Time on computers

Time to listen to IPODs

Students are encouraged to suggest other PAT activities that are appropriate to an educational setting.  These suggestions will be considered by staff for approval
